Preparing a delicious meal isn't just about the seasonings you add, but also about the pots and pans you use. An All-Clad cookware set takes cooking to the next level by providing top of the line products. The thing is, your pots and pans probably get the most wear and tear of any item in your kitchen. So, the last thing you want is to have cookware that will give out shortly after purchasing it.
Cooking with cheap, low-quality pots and pans is a nightmare because often your food sticks or loses its flavor altogether. Not to mention that scratched pans are unattractive and difficult to cook with, plus, they can also be hazardous to your health. Luckily, there is durable cookware on the market that can stand up to use over long periods of time.
People usually invest in buying the best plates and silverware, or the latest coffee maker, without considering their pots and pans. But that has to change. Tasty meals come from great flavors and even better cookware. A huge factor that contributes to a yummy outcome for your food is the love you put into it. But let's face it, you won't feel very confident knowing you're using less than quality cookware. All-Clad has made a name for itself as the best of the best, but is it really the top choice?
What Is an All-Clad Cookware Set?
An All-Clad cookware set contains aluminum and often copper that's constructed between two layers of stainless steel. The clad layers wrap all the way to the top of the pan, which is different from the construction found in less expensive lines of cookware. In other brands, disks of aluminum and sometimes stainless steel, are bound together by adhesives. In metal crafting terminology, cladding references the coating of one metal with a layer of another metal. Cookware is often “clad” with a durable metal to protect the softer aluminum on the inside.
All-Clad was one of the first companies to market pans using “clad” technology over the entire pot or pan, not just on the bottom. Since the sides of their pots and pans continue the covering of stainless steel, their pans are "All-Clad." The company began in 1971 and has manufactured premium, multi-ply cookware since that time. Their products are made in the USA, and they try to source their metals from American suppliers as well.
You can expect to pay between $$ to $$$ for an All-Clad cookware set, and it comes with a lifetime warranty. The price you pay depends on the type of set you purchase, and the number of pots and pans included. You can buy these sets on the All-Clad website or Amazon.
Pros and Cons
One of the great things about buying an All-Clad cookware set is that it's one of the most superior lines of pots and pans available. When you purchase these, you know you're investing in quality. This is the primary perk of this cookware.
On the other hand, a good many of their cookware sets don't have a non-stick option, which could pose an issue. If you're someone who doesn't like washing dishes, using pans that aren't non-stick is a problem. But they do have some cookware sets that are non-stick, so look for those. Other than that, the only other negative is the price point. The cost of an All-Clad cookware set might be a deterrent for some people.
Is All-Clad Cookware Worth the Price?
All-Clad pots and pans are quite expensive, and while it's a top-notch brand, you can find all-clad construction in Cuisinart, Calphalon, and other brands. So with that said, if you can't afford the All-Clad brand, there are cheaper options. Concerning the cooking performance between the brands, there's not a huge difference. However, there's something special about knowing that you're cooking with the best of the best available.
An All-Clad cookware set also lasts you for many years, and it's an investment. If you cook a lot of meals or throw a lot of dinner parties, you want to use quality cookware. The longevity of your pots and pans is a huge factor. But ultimately, it's your decision as to whether you want to spend the extra money on All-Clad. If you do, you can rest assured that your buying premium cookware.

All-Clad’s top line of cookware is called Copper Core. It consists of bonded five-ply clad construction that contains a magnetic stainless steel exterior, followed by an aluminum layer, the copper core, another aluminum layer, and finally an 18/10 stainless steel interior cooking surface, from the outside in.
This line is the best for distributing heat evenly throughout the pan due to its copper core, so you don't have to worry about hot spots. It has some of the same heat distribution properties as other copper cookware, but it's much more durable and easy to care for because it's lined with steel on both sides. However, even though it's dishwasher safe, it's not available with non-stick properties. This is an excellent choice if you desire the cooking capabilities of copper but want something that's more durable.
